Peculiar Island is a cinematic exploration of architecture shaped by land.
Through conversations with the people who design, build and inhabit these places, each film follows the relationship between architecture and the conditions that shape it — land, climate, material, memory and everyday life.
Rather than documenting buildings from a distance, Peculiar Island is interested in what happens when we stay a little longer.
Adriel Buntario and Sharon Angelia work together at Sepaham, moving between image-making and production.
Charlie Balch is a cinematographer drawn to light, architecture, and the way people move through space.
Peculiar Island began somewhere in the overlap.

Synopsis
our first film visits kubu taru, a home born from the collaboration between sebastian mesdag and architect conchita blanco of blanco studio. through their conversation, the film traces the decisions that shaped the house — not simply how it looks, but why it came to exist this way, on this particular piece of land.
Kubu Taru becomes less a portrait of a finished building than a study of the relationship between place, maker and resident — and what happens when architecture begins by listening.
